Avatar Academic

Martin Mascarenas co-founded Avatar Academic in 1997 and is currently responsible for running all aspects of the business. He has built the business from a start-up to one which has customers in twenty states. Mr. Mascarenas has more than twenty years of experience in the technology and software sectors. From 1988 to 1997, he was a senior engineer with IBM and worked in a range of roles including as part of the RS6000 Division (High Speed Interconnect Division). Mr. Mascarenas holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University and completed graduate studies in computing and electrical engineering at the University of Texas.

Kem Phillips has been a key member of the Avatar Academic team and has played a substantial role in building the business. She has account manager responsibilities for a number of the major customers and is also responsible for all training and support services for customers. Ms. Phillips has approximately 20 years of experience in the education sector with a specific focus on professional development for educational staff. Prior to joining Avatar Academic, Ms. Phillips worked for the Austin Independent School District.
