The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust selects AUSSIE/Editure Professional Development as professional development partner for Bronx schools

Funds will support professional development services in approximately 25 Bronx schools.

New York, NY (April 8, 2011) – Leading global educator professional development company, Editure Professional Development, announced its partnership with The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. AUSSIE/Editure Professional Development will use funds from the Helmsley Charitable Trust to help K-12 schools in need in the Bronx, New York. Bringing to bear decades of experience and expertise in 21st-century instruction, AUSSIE will work with schools to improve student achievement.

AUSSIE consultants will work collaboratively with school principals and teachers to increase student achievement by improving teacher performance, and build capacity within partner schools to ensure long-term success. Job-embedded professional development services focus on improving leadership; co-development of a cohesive standards-based curriculum; strengthening of pedagogy and rigorous instruction in language arts, information and communication technology literacy, and mathematics; co-development of assessments for learning; building effective professional learning communities; and and supporting the principal and teachers in differentiating instruction by using a flexible range of teaching strategies to accommodate the diverse needs of students. The program will be tailored to meet the identified needs of each partner school.

The Fund for Public Schools will administer the grant. The Fund works to attract private investment in school reform for New York City’s public schools, and to encourage greater involvement of all New Yorkers in the education of our children. This includes working to secure critical funding for system-wide education reform initiatives; facilitating strategic public-private partnerships; managing a targeted set of programs to support city schools; and building citywide public awareness.

“AUSSIE’s vision for schools in the 21st-century is shaped by the rapid change and growth of the world we live in. As society, knowledge and technologies grow and change, so do our students’ learning needs and the way learning is delivered,” said Jeff Vohden, President and CEO of Editure Professional Development.

Bronx schools in the Helmsley Trust’s targeted geography, Districts 9 and 12, will soon be able to apply for a two-year engagement with AUSSIE/Editure, which will partner with approximately 25 schools through this initiative. Funds from the Helmsley Trust will be available to subsidize 50% of the cost of services, thereby doubling the number of consultancy days that schools are able to afford and hopefully driving greater gains in student achievement and long-term improvements in school wide instructional practice.

“AUSSIE was carefully selected based on its proven track record in maximizing teacher effectiveness at the whole school level,” said Helmsley Trust Program Director Rich McKeon. “We are excited to be able to extend their impact in Bronx Districts 9 and 12.”

“We are grateful to Helmsley for affording AUSSIE the opportunity to help educators improve their curricula, instructional practices, technology integration, and culture of excellence with the ultimate goal of increasing student achievement and equipping learners with the skills to succeed in college and a competitive global economy,” said Dr. Victor Aluise, President of AUSSIE Digital School Solutions.
